About The Position

Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, TEC has 30+ locations from Seattle to San Diego to the Midwest, serving thousands of customers across Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. TEC Equipment features Mack and Volvo heavy-duty trucks, Hino and Isuzu medium duty trucks, Stoughton trailers and Cottrell auto transport trailers. They offer a large and desirable inventory of new Mack and Volvo heavy-duty trucks and all makes of used trucks. Their full-service line-up also features quality parts, state-of-the-art service, collision centers and fuel, leasing/rental, financing, and insurance. Their locations are authorized service centers for Mack, Volvo, Cummins, Meritor, Eaton and Fuller warranties, offering one-stop shopping for all trucking-related needs. The company is looking for a driven Accounting Intern with a basic understanding of GAAP and financial principles and terms who is ready for an immersive, real-world experience. Under the supervision of staff, the Accounting Intern can expect to participate in the preparation of journal entries and financial reports, analyze actual financial data, learn more about dealership ERP software, and assist with other accounting activities. The ideal candidate is a motivated team player who can maintain efficiency and accuracy when multitasking. Although this position is generally subject to direct supervision, a degree of latitude and independent problem-solving is expected. Interns will have the opportunity to rotate between departments to build a broad understanding of how various departments function and interact in supporting the business. Requirements

  • Must be actively working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting as a Sophomore or Junior
  • Satisfactory completion of introductory accounting courses and a basic understanding of accounting and financial principles
  • Basic understanding of GAAP accounting principles
  • Strong oral and written communication with the ability to successfully interact with the Accounting team and other TEC staff
  • Independent problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility

Nice To Haves

  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Excel preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries
  • Complete a range of month-end and fiscal year-end close related responsibilities
  • Perform internal control activities
  • Customer and vendor database management
  • Develop new FP&A reports
  • Inventory listing maintenance
  • Support external audits as needed
  • Provide administrative support to accounting, tax and other internal customers at TEC
  • Manage workload and meet deadlines. Proactively communicate with Supervisors when there are unexpected challenges
  • Assist in special projects as needed
  • Learning how to work as part of the Accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support TEC
