About The Position

Celerity, a telecommunications/construction company based in Quakertown, PA, is currently seeking a full time Accounting Department Manager. This position will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department guiding the financial reporting and ensuring the accuracy of records and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, managing cash flow, and implementing internal controls to safeguard company assets. The position also plays a key role in preparing budgets and analyzing financial performance to support informed decision-making. By supervising and mentoring the accounting team, the manager ensures that tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing and inventory control are handled efficiently.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in accounting or a related field
  • At least 2 years in a managerial role
  • Proficiency with online banking systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office software
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Background in construction and job costing preferred
  • Experience with construction job cost accounting software (Foundation Software a plus)
  • Experience with Davis-Bacon/Prevailing Wage Payroll required

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll and general ledger. Serve as a backup in these roles as necessary.
  • Interact and cooperate with other departments to promote a seamless company workflow.
  • Coordinate and plan the daily activities of the Accounting Clerk(s)
  • Coordinate and plan the daily activities of the Corporate Buyer. Oversee the purchasing process including purchase orders, on boarding of subs/vendors and supply chain concerns.
  • Validate the accuracy of all work in the accounting department and take corrective measures as required.
  • Oversee the company's payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in calculations, tax withholdings, and disbursements. Troubleshoot and repair any inconsistencies that arise between company's time entry systems, internal payroll practices and external payroll processing company.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Oversee/Reconcile all company financial activities such as credit cards, bank accounts, customer or vendor accounts
  • Coordinate and support the preparation of annual tax returns, liaising with the external CPA firm. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Assist in the administration of company's 401K retirement plan.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing financial analysis and insights.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Direct the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Monitor and report on financial activities and details, such as billings, cash flow, agings and profitability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and work with the Corporate Buyer to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Develop, document and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, payroll, retirement fund and internal and external customers to facilitate financial activities.
  • Receive, record and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  • Coordinate and support the annual Worker's Comp audit process, liaising with external auditors.
  • Engage in continuing education to stay current with regulatory changes and industry trends.
  • Train, mentor and supervise accounting staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Lead the professional development of the accounting team through ongoing training, performance evaluations, SOPs and goal setting.
  • Performs other accounting-related duties as requested by company ownership.
