About The Position

The Chattanooga Zoo is seeking a PT Accounting Specialist to join the Zoo Crew ! To be successful in this role you will need to have a passion for numbers, possess a high level of detail, and thrive on accurate data and spreadsheets. The Accounting Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and contributes to the overall financial health of the Zoo. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two (2) years of relevant college coursework
  • Minimum one (1) year relevant, hands-on experience
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel is required
  • Any combination of equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered
  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Exceptional attention to detail; high level of accuracy
  • Excellent computer skills; Proficiency with Excel spreadsheets
  • Analytical thinker with problem solving skills
  • Proficient fact-checking abilities
  • Trustworthy and discreet when working with confidential information
  • Valid driver's license
  • Light: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
  • This position requires sitting for long periods of time, but also may require some movement across Zoo grounds

  • Experience / knowledge of Sage preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reconciling daily cash receipts and recording cash transactions
  • Prepare bank deposits
  • Verification and reconciliation of credit card transactions and receipts
  • Invoice processing and reconciliation
  • Posting checks and vendor payments
  • Maintain electronic and physical financial records
  • Assist in account analysis and account coding
  • Log transactions and create and utilize spreadsheets
  • Assist Finance Director with audits, forecasts, and other financial planning
  • Handle incoming mail, scan and photocopy documents
  • Filing, mailing, and other duties as assigned
