About The Position

An Accounting Assistant position is available due to a retirement. The role starts as part-time, requiring 20 hours per week with flexible days, from January to March. It transitions to a full-time position with hours from 8 AM to 5 PM starting in April. The position involves handling accounts payable and receivable, processing 50–100 purchase orders and 200–250 checks per month, managing ongoing deposits, general ledger postings, report generation for audits, and assisting with financial statements and various reconciliations. This role requires a candidate who is independent and trustworthy as the manager works remotely for most of the month. The position is on-site in Gardnerville and necessitates a commitment to daily commutes in all weather conditions. The initial part-time schedule allows for training and a smooth transition to full-time employment, offering an opportunity to learn unique processes in a supportive environment

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of debits, credits, and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for daily tasks.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to non-standard processes.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Entry-level profile preferred, adaptable to unique tribal entity processes.
  • Punctual, willing to learn, and able to work well with a small office team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in tribal housing or public sector accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including processing purchase orders and checks monthly.
  • Handle ongoing deposits and general ledger postings.
  • Generate reports for audits and assist with financial statement preparation.
  • Perform various reconciliations, including bank and housing database reconciliations.
  • Support the office with additional accounting and administrative tasks as needed.
