About The Position

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent with additional coursework in bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting or auditing, preferably in a county or school district office.
  • Valid CA Driver License and proof of insurance when driving is an assigned job duty.
  • Knowledge of principles used in technical accounting work and general double-entry bookkeeping methods.
  • Ability to develop and implement new or revised procedures based on understanding and interpreting information prescribed by codes, regulations, manuals, directives, and statutes.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and computer report development software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a computerized accounting environment.
  • Familiarity with State and Federal laws pertaining to school accounting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex clerical and accounting functions.
  • Develop, prepare, review, calculate, verify, and audit retirement and payroll transactions.
  • Maintain accurate records of Federal, State, and local funds.
  • Prepare financial statements, statistical, and management reports, including attendance.
  • Reconcile cash and other general ledger accounts.
  • Provide support and assistance to accountants and perform special projects as assigned.
  • Assist staff in resolving complex problems.
  • Establish office procedures, forms, and timelines.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to school districts' and program staff.
  • Work with Accountant to ensure appropriateness of account coding.
  • Audit, reconcile, and correct a variety of records and reports from various sources.
  • Prepare spreadsheets for various financial reports.
  • Process interfund transfers and deposit revenue for all school districts.
  • Verify accuracy of financial reports.
