The Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper at The New Mexican is responsible for managing various financial functions for the newspaper, including daily cash handling, account payments, and financial reporting across different departments. This full-time position requires a strong background in bookkeeping and accounting principles, with a focus on accuracy and analytical skills.

  • Handle daily cash and account payments from different departments.
  • Perform reconciliation of client accounts including cash, credit card, and ACH payments.
  • Manage bank deposits and accounts payable processes.
  • Process invoices and ensure timely payments.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in general bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Extensive experience in a business office and in collecting past due accounts.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate account ledgers.
  • Familiarity with accounting software programs.
