About The Position

The Accounting Assistant (AP/AR) role at Progress Rail Services Corp. involves providing financial, administrative, and clerical support to the organization. Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience or Associates Degree for Skill Level I.
  • 2-5 years of experience or Specific Experience or Bachelor Degree for Skill Level II.
  • 5+ years of experience for Skill Level III.
  • Detail oriented with a sense of urgency and follow-through.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and efficiently.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and deal with various vendors as required.
  • Adapt to frequent changes in workload and priority as circumstances dictate.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher level of education preferred.
  • Advanced Windows Operating Systems experience and/or Linux.
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in Excel.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Oracle DB, MSSQL, and RDP.

Responsibilities

  • Process all invoices received within 48 hours of receipt utilizing basic problem-solving skills (purchase order research).
  • Ensure compliance with departmental standards (processing / scanning goals).
  • Follow established Accounting policies & procedures.
  • Gather and report accrual data.
  • Ensure data entry is up to date in order to meet month end deadlines.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Support the efforts of Accounting Management to achieve corporate/departmental goals and objectives.
  • Run a variety of reports to analyze data and accruals.
  • Vendor Maintenance.
  • Prepare month-end checklist for the plant. Ensure closing is on time and accurate.
  • Ensure that cutoff for production orders, shipping, billing and goods received is accurate.
  • Ensure that account reconciliations are prepared timely and accurately with detailed supporting schedules.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial forecasts and annual business plan; provide trended analysis and projections.
