About The Position

The Accounting & Finance Manager is a hands-on, day-to-day leadership role that blends technical accounting expertise with financial insight, team collaboration, and operational execution. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s financial operations while strengthening the effectiveness and performance of the accounting function. The Accounting & Finance Manager oversees and performs daily accounting activities, contributes to financial planning and analysis, and provides guidance, oversight, and coaching to members of the accounting team. The role ensures accurate financial records, meaningful and timely reporting, and efficient workflows that support informed organizational decision-making, while consistently modeling and championing Lighthouse’s core values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in accounting, or finance, demonstrating increasing responsibility and complexity, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experiencer managing core accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Strong ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across departments and leadership levels to build productive, trust-based relationships.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, paired with strong organizational, time-management and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, including the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Cash Flows.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and broader financial management processes.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends or risks, and translate results into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Proven ability to provide guidance, coaching, and support to team members in a collaborative and respectful manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional maturity, sound judgment, and discretion, with the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and organizational information.
  • Tactful, flexible, diplomatic, and trustworthy, with a consistently positive and professional demeanor.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas and data analysis; strong working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with deep drive to question, explore, and support organizational growth and scalability.
  • Ability to pass Florida Level II background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, including grant, fund, or cost accounting.
  • Prior experience providing guidance, oversight, coaching, or mentorship within an Accounting or Finance function
  • CPA designation or active progress toward CPA certification.
  • Experience supporting audits, regulatory reporting, or compliance with Federal, State, or Local funding requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Prepare, review, and approve general ledger journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Create, manage, and monitor reconciliation schedules across accounts.
  • Research, analyze, and document accounting transactions; identity and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, capitalization, depreciation, and reporting.
  • Support grant and fund accounting activities, including revenue recognition and expense mapping.
  • Ensure programmatic and project costs are appropriately allocated and recorded.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Develop, maintain and refine financial analyses and performance metrics to support leadership decision-making.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local funding and reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting quality, transparency, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide daily oversight, guidance, and coaching to accounting & finance team members.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve workflows.
  • Design, refine, and automate processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Serve as backup support for finance team functions as needed.
  • Participate in agency activities and events as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
