About The Position

The Accountant position at the City of Wausau involves performing a variety of specialized financial, accounting, analytical, and administrative duties to support the Finance division. The role is essential for maintaining the accuracy of the City's financial records, preparing reports, and providing technical advice to staff. The Accountant will also coordinate customer service activities related to revenue collection and assist in budget development and grant accounting.

Requirements

  • Four (4) or more years of professional accounting experience.
  • A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional accounting work including preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling complex financial transactions, statements, records, and reports.
  • Coordinate, train, and monitor customer service activity related to revenue collection procedures, software, and cash handling procedures.
  • Perform daily cash reconciliation and monitor data from the point-of-sale system to subsidiary receivable systems and general ledger.
  • Collaborate with CCITC and payroll accountant to support the automated payroll and time and attendance system.
  • Participate in the development of the City's annual budget, including preparing payroll budgets and analyzing budget variances.
  • Perform General Fixed Asset accounting and manage the Room Tax Grant program.
  • Oversee the City's participation in the State of Wisconsin Tax Intercept and State Debt Collection Program.
  • Support grant accounting activities including single audit workpaper development.
  • Maintain the City fee schedule and work with departments to review fee structures and examine revenue opportunities.
