An Accountant is essential for supporting the Finance team in processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with audits and reporting. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, accounts, and bank reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role requires attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to maintain compliance with company policies and regulations. The ideal candidate will also proactively identify opportunities for improving financial processes and controls. This role provides an opportunity to develop and expand accounting skills and knowledge. Requirements

  • Two years of professional accounting or analytical experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with other court and county departments, external agencies, and employees

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing Maricopa County’s finance practices and information systems (OnBase and CGI Advantage)
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of Minimum Accounting Standards (MAS)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

Responsibilities

  • Perform general accounting duties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, routine and complex account and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares and processes bank deposits, refunds, and cash receipts
  • Responds to requests for information; reviews, investigates, and corrects errors in documents and reports; provides technical information to Division staff as authorized
  • Resolve inquiries and discrepancies associated with payables and receivables, including initiating requests for additional documentation, information from vendors, contractors, staff, and others
  • Reconcile transactions and financial activities according to policies; record changes; review financial and accounting records and errors
  • Examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with contracts, other agreements, policies, and appropriate regulations
  • Screen invoices for accuracy and contract compliance, obtain appropriate expenditure approval, apply appropriate accounting string information, and create confidential paperwork as needed
  • Reviews invoices and ensures proper documentation, balances against requisitions, purchase orders, and contracts
  • Monitors accounting documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Federal, state, and county policies and practices; interprets requests and prepares journal entries as required
  • Initiates or conducts research on financial transactions in various financial systems
  • Assists team with training, research, logging, filing, and/or special projects
