About The Position

The Accountant is responsible for performing accounting functions related to, but not limited to, month-end close, account reconciliations, fixed assets, monthly financial analysis, and additional financial support. This position also participates in the year-end audit preparation and the annual budget process. RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL: Implements strategies to achieve the goals for the organization and accounting functions.  Implements, revises, and sustains policies, procedures and programs. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 3 – 12 months.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) and best business practices.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience with fixed assets and integrated accounting systems preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, record, and review monthly journal entries to ensure they are proper, accurate and adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including asset lifecycle activity, depreciation, and related forecasting and budgeting.  Maintain lease accounting records and prepare related entries, budgets, and schedules.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and reviews to ensure the accuracy and proper classification of account balances.
  • Provide financial support to Financial Compliance Manager as assigned or requested.  This may include but is not limited to: preparation of monthly cost reimbursement invoices, reviewing for accuracy and compliance with funding agency requirements; assistance with grant requests and funding source audits, preparation of government census surveys, special projects, etc. [10%]
  • Communicate, orally and in writing, with customers, co-workers, and management regarding financial and non-financial data.
  • Participate in annual budget process.
  • Participate in year-end audit preparation. Project and Change Management: Effectively plans and manages own work to reliably complete routine job responsibilities and special assignments. May serve as a team member or subject matter expert on formal projects or within the department. Effectively engages in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.
  • Problem Solving: Light supervision; works independently. Periodic review of work by manager or senior coworker. Solves problems of moderate to advanced complexity; able to identify root cause, interpret data and resolve issues.
  • Technical Skill: Understands and applies professional principles and skills within area of specialization to modify processes to resolve situations.
  • Community Engagement: Champions Goodwill’s community engagement initiatives and serves as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community.
  • Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
