About The Position

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Director/Chief of Staff, Chief Financial Officer(CFO) Finance Section, Accounting and Cash Management/Fees, is seeking to hire an individual toserve as an Accountant, independently performs professional accounting and auditing duties. The idealcandidate for this position will be organized, detailed, and possess the ability to adapt to change in acollaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicateeffectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses inbusiness administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Requires the ability to pass a name-based background check.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime includingscheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Prefers ability to perform detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditingproblems.

  • Prefers ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly andaccurately, either manually or by machine.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and deposits cash receipts for various accounts.
  • Reconcile the Agency mainframe Cash Management System to logs maintained on Excel spreadsheets to the Comptroller's monthly fund ledgers and receipts ledger.
  • Records accounts receivable ledgers for various agency accounts utilizing a personal computer and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Examine and verify for completion the accuracy and compliance of various financial status reports and statements for utilized by agency management personnel for planning and budgeting including.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
