We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to join our team. This role is critical to maintaining accurate financial records, supporting daily accounting operations, and ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting. This is an on-site position based in our Baton Rouge office. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment. This role also provides cross-functional support across the accounting department and assists with general administrative functions related to HR and employee benefits as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field required
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience (construction or homebuilding industry a plus)
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (NewStar preferred)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
  • Process and record cash receipts and deposits
  • Prepare and post journal entries in accounting system (NewStar experience a plus)
  • Assist with home closing entries, including: Sales recognition, Mortgage payoffs, Closing costs and commissions
  • Maintain and update Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
  • Support monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review and validate HUDs and closing documentation
  • Assist with vendor payments and account reconciliations
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Provide backup support across accounting functions as needed
  • Collaborate with internal teams (sales, purchasing, construction) to ensure accurate financial data
  • Support process improvements and uphold internal controls
  • Assist with general administrative duties related to HR, employee records, and benefits coordination as needed
