About The Position

What’s the role We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in energy, technology, and a passion to deliver products for a growing company. Shell is looking for an Accountant who is an experienced accounting professional with a general knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and will be responsible for general ledger activities, journal entries, and close execution, in addition to oversight of selected transactional processes. This role applies strong technical judgment to ensure accurate financial reporting and a timely close. Reporting into the B2B Controller the role requires a self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Technical competence in US GAAP/FASB Accounting Standards codification, budgeting/forecasting and cost control principles
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstrate a vested interest in team goals and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
  • Self-motivated with the desire to consistently improve performance and gain further knowledge
  • Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly and demonstrate effective problem solving and follow-up skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge/experience with retail/wholesale electricity or natural gas industries preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post recurring and nonroutine journal entries in accordance with GAAP
  • Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies
  • Execute and coordinate assigned close activities to meet reporting deadlines
  • Perform monthly financial statement variance analysis and provide explanations to management
  • Support cash forecasting and liquidity reporting
  • Provide oversight and review of selected accounts payable activities
  • Assist with process improvements, system enhancements, and control initiatives
  • Support audits, internal reviews, and special projects as assigned
