About The Position

The Staff Accountant position is part of Smoke Guard Inc’s Accounting team. This role is responsible for providing accounting support to the organization and assisting the Controller with daily accounting functions such as compilation and analysis of financial data, preparation of journal entries, and fixed asset and accounts receivable accounting, as well as internal company SOX coordination.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SOX requirements, cost accounting, and best practices in Accounting & Finance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and a high level of proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to complete work within assigned timeframes
  • A strong sense of teamwork and willingness to help out other team members as needed
  • High level of confidentiality
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required, but an Associate's degree in Accounting may be considered if the candidate has significant experience in the areas listed above.
  • 3 or more years of progressive experience in accounting roles, including Accounts Receivable; performing financial analysis and reporting; compliance with SOX requirements and internal controls is required
  • Experience utilizing MS Excel, accounting software (Great Plains preferred), and other financial reporting systems required (such as Blackline)
  • Candidates who receive an offer of employment must successfully pass a background check and drug screen
  • Must have finger dexterity
  • Must be able to reach, bend, kneel, and crouch occasionally
  • Must be able to safely lift 40 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification is preferred
  • Experience performing cost accounting or other accounting activities for a manufacturing organization is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform general and cost accounting activities using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and industry best practices
  • Interpret and apply policies and procedures and ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX regulations
  • Prepare and track monthly journal entries for accruals, expenditures, and reclassifications as needed
  • Maintain capital asset accounting system and inventory system
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation
  • Recognize and resolve accounting discrepancies and prepare reconciling journal entries
  • Process Accounts Receivable invoicing weekly and assist with collections issues as needed
  • Perform month-end and quarter-end closing on a timely basis (including PBCs)
  • Participate in year-end physical inventory activities
  • Assist Accounts Payable personnel as needed
  • Assist Controller with special projects and process improvement
  • Gather information, research transactions, and perform analysis of financial data
