About The Position

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California. Homewood is seeking an Accountant to join the Finance & Accounting Department. The Accountant is an essential member of the Finance and Accounting team and is responsible for overseeing Club expenditures, reconciliations, and data keeping, but is not limited to all aspects of accounting at the Club. The Accountant will partner with the Club Controller, Club Leadership, and the Corporate Finance and Accounting Team. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or University, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of club accounting work-related skill, knowledge and experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel preferred.
  • Proficiency in club related accounting software applications.
  • Similar combination of education and experience.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and desire to work in fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accounting functions and management of processes and procedures for assigned project(s) in the Club.
  • Ensure financial operations of the Club are compliant with company expectations, processes, and controls.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and journal entries in accordance with monthly reporting.
  • Provide oversight and control of internal financial processes at the projects.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements for assigned project(s).
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge and competency of company systems, i.e. Jonas, emburse, beanworks, etc.
  • Resource for accounting and system processes and procedures.
  • Audit project use of purchase cards and produce reports.
  • Responsible for project cash management (including preparing check requests, funds transfers, distribution analysis, recording cash receipts, etc.).
  • Back-up for all accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks.
  • Manage project deadlines for billings, month end close, etc.
  • Manage project compliance documents.
  • Perform duties to prescribed accounting deadlines.
  • GAAP/IFRS Accounting for Clubs.
  • Timely reporting of material changes to Management.
  • Work to improve current processes and spreadsheets.
