About The Position

The Accountant position at the Housing Authority of the City of Colorado Springs involves performing a variety of professional accounting and analytical duties to support the organization. This includes maintaining and reconciling general and subsidiary ledgers, preparing financial reports, and participating in financial processes. Requirements

  • Two years of increasingly responsible professional accounting, analytical, and/or budgetary experience.
  • Knowledge of advanced methods and techniques of research, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Familiarity with advanced principles and practices of governmental accounting and fiscal record keeping.
  • Ability to accurately tabulate, record, and balance assigned transactions.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting and/or finance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of analytical duties in support of the Housing Authority, including budget and accounting analyses, studies, and research projects.
  • Conduct professional accounting activities in compliance with applicable standards, including general ledger reconciliation and financial reporting.
  • Assist in resolving accounting and budget problems by identifying issues and conducting research for solutions.
  • Coordinate assigned services and project activities with various departments as needed.
  • Analyze budgets and set up appropriate line items within the accounting systems to maximize fund utilization.
  • Participate in financial audits and provide necessary information and documentation to auditors.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and audit various accounts and general ledgers, ensuring accuracy in accounting transactions.
  • Prepare statistical, financial, and budget reports for internal and external customers, maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Monitor and reconcile accounts, verifying fund availability and expenditure classifications.
  • Establish and maintain written procedures to ensure adequate internal controls over accounting functions.
  • Stay updated on new trends and innovations in governmental accounting and related processes.
