This position is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and execution of financial operations by performing accounting functions, which includes journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, month end close, and financial and regulatory reporting. This position maintains a high level of understanding of business processes to ensure operational results are accurately recorded in the financial statements by interpreting and applying U.S GAAP. This position will play a significant role in the month-end process, lead departmental projects, and provide mentorship and training to team members.

Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience in accounting, including applicable experience in interpreting and applying U.S. GAAP and in financial statement preparation.
  • Experience in managing projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills
  • Exhibits strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to Learn and demonstrate that learning on the job
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must maintain high-level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and ability to research issues
  • Ability to read and interpret financial reports
  • Proactively negotiates across departments. Influences others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices and procedures.
  • Can be accountable for managing projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision
  • Acts autonomously on most decisions. Requires guidance on more complex judgments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger.
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations and analyze operational results for required month-end accruals and determine appropriate journal entries.
  • Maintain all loan and share related general ledgers accounts including the set up of new loan and share types, proper accounting treatment and reporting, and ongoing general ledger maintenance.
  • Manage fixed asset inventory including determining proper accounting treatment and set up for new assets, and disposal of fixed assets. Prepares fixed asset roll forward and actual to budget spend.
  • Oversee all capitalized loan cost including annual standard costs analysis and recommend changes as required.
  • Review weekly accounts payable for proper general ledger and department mapping and approvals.
  • Review vendor setup ensuring proper 1099 reporting classification and accurate payment information.
  • Provide significant support to Accounting and Finance leadership to produce the monthly financial statements and Board reports and completes month-over-month variances explanations for senior management.
  • Manages full lifecycle of lease agreements, ensuring compliance with accounting guidelines. Analyze contracts, calculate right of use assets and liabilities, and prepare journal entries and reconciliation.
  • Reviews daily and monthly general ledger and clearing account reconciliations prepared by junior team members for accuracy.
  • Review capitalized loan cost analysis.
  • Maintain accounts payable approval authorities limits in the accounts payable system. Maintains corporate credit card users and limits.
  • Assists in monthly preparation of the allowance for credit loss estimate and implements changes to the estimation process as directed.
  • Oversees the preparation of quarterly call report information, ensuring accuracy of information provided and implements changes to reporting required to comply with NCUA guidelines.
  • Assists with annual financial statement audits, annual regulatory examinations, and periodic audits
  • Prepares and submits data for annual 990 and 1120 tax filings
  • Acts as a stakeholder and decision maker in projects and represents the accounting team on strategic initiatives.
  • Provides accounting guidance to key stakeholders.
  • Serves as a mentor to more junior team members.
  • Coaches, reviews, and delegates work to lower-level professionals within the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
