The Accountant IV position within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer - ODFS Public Infrastructure division is responsible for performing professional accounting work that requires the application of accounting theories, concepts, principles, and standards. This role involves overseeing various accounting assignments, maintaining and implementing accounting systems, preparing financial reports, and managing cost accounting systems. The Accountant IV will also be involved in tax examinations, grant management, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations.

  • Perform complex accounting functions consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Research, analyze, and implement accounting rules and regulations as stipulated by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Conduct searches and complex examinations of budget and financial records.
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports.
  • Independently conduct the complete range of tax examinations and related investigations.
  • Maintain ledger and computer systems required for payroll and financial reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Consolidated Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Design new systems for tax examination and tax management control.
  • Resolve issues where governing laws and regulations are highly interpretive.
  • Develop and apply unique probing and analysis techniques.
  • Identify accounting problems such as inadequate maintenance of fund controls.
  • Post journal entries, reconcile dates, and manage inter-agency billings.
  • Draft simple instructions for internal accounting procedures.
  • Assist in executing portions of an audit plan.
  • Report to management regarding the finances of the establishment.
  • Perform grant management and monitoring duties.
  • Compile centrally requested cost reports and reports of variance from standards.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics, or a closely related field.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in accounting.
  • Two (2) years of verifiable experience leading teams or providing instructions to subordinate staff.
  • Proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.
  • Experience with automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) regulations.
