Explore more details on the Benefits of Working at HHS webpage. Accountant III - Accounts Receivable SSLC-SH State Reporting Team Performs moderately complex (journey-level) accounting work. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees may: Participates in the processing of Receivables for the CFO Accounts Receivable (AR) Department. Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and enters in the Accounts Receivable Tracking System (ARTS), Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), and Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). Balances and reconciles financial and accounting documents and records. Assists State Supported Living Centers (SSLC) and State Hospitals (SH) regional accounting teams with providing researching, analyzing, and recommendations regarding financial transaction records and reports. Reviews variety of reconciliation reports monthly or quarterly and resolves discrepancies. Works under general to limited supervision of the manager, with moderate to considerable latitude use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions (EJFs): Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of fiscal programs; governmental accounting; laws and regulations pertaining to financial operations.
  • Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships both internally and external to the agency.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to interpret laws and regulations; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use complex automated accounting systems, including but not limited to CAPPS Financials, PeopleSoft Financials, Accounts Receivable Tracking System (ARTS), and USAS.
  • Experience in accounting and financial operations
  • Experience with automated accounting systems
  • Experience in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Acrobat, Outlook)
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in customer service, accounting, finance, auditing, or budgeting.
  • Graduated from High School or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting experience in State Government or Non-Profit organization is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to daily inquiries and questions from the SSLC and SH accounting teams and from within/outside the agency (20%)
  • Review and audit deposit and correction journals for accuracy and post in the State Accounting systems. Communicate with the SSLC/SH regional accounting teams to resolve discrepancies (20%)
  • Review the SSLC/SH Bank reconciliation documents monthly and follow up the document receipt status. Research the outstanding items and communicate with the SSLC/SH regional offices to resolve. (25%)
  • Review a variety of revenue reports monthly or quarterly as assigned and research in the state accounting systems to follow up the outstanding items (25%)
  • Work on special projects assigned by management including ad hoc requests. Support AR management as needed and assigned. (10%)
