About The Position

The Military Division (Massachusetts National Guard) is seeking a professional for the role of Accountant III at Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield Massachusetts. In this role, the Accountant III will oversee expense reimbursements, ensuring compliance with the Master Cooperative Agreement. They will match invoices to purchase orders, manage approvals, and process payments through an Integrated Engineering Management System (IEMS). The Accountant III's attention to detail will be advantageous to review work for accuracy, support both internal and external inquiries, and generate critical financial and budget reports.

Requirements

  • At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • At least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting including terminology.
  • Knowledge of the methods of general report writing.
  • Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of accounting data, to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, accounts and ledgers.
  • Ability to understand, apply and explain the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc. governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations using formulae to solve accounting problems.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to gather information by examining records and documents and through questioning individuals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to prepare general and financial reports.
  • Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly, and to develop ideas in logical sequence.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and assists with the tracking of budgets for both Federal State and funds.
  • Maintain the account/record keeping ledger by entering all purchase orders and Operations and Maintenance expenditures into the required accounting database.
  • Match invoices to purchase orders.
  • Submit purchase orders, utility bills, contract purchases, etc. to the Massachusetts Military Division for payment.
  • Track cyclical, seasonal and regular spending rates and trends, to provide historical information to future budget planning.
  • Assures that all proper approvals and documentation are received before funds are obligated.
  • Partners in preparing annual budget projections and requests.
  • Manage the IEMS Program by entering all initial data at the beginning of each fiscal year.
  • Performs the functions necessary to operate the IEMS so that accurate record keeping is maintained at all times.
  • Coordinate with production control, supply technician and engineering staff to ensure all labor, material and contract information is complete.
  • Compile final project costs, transfer files to the real property technician for final closeout.
