Performs professional accounting work within the Offices for Medical Student Education (OME), with responsibility across one or more components of the University’s financial systems (e.g., Workday, UR Financials, UR Budget, UR Procurement, UR GEMS, and UR Space). This role encompasses a broad range of accounting functions, including ledger/fund analysis and reconciliation, financial reporting, cost analysis and allocation, classification of accounts and funds, evaluation of accounting systems, and sponsored programs accounting. Operating with a high degree of independence, the position provides both accounting and administrative support while maintaining accurate and comprehensive financial records for OME. Reporting to the Director of the Offices for Medical Student Education, delivers specialized expertise in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Cost Accounting, and General Accounting. Responsibilities include preparing detailed financial reports and analyses; developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls; and ensuring accurate review and reconciliation of OME accounts and annual budgets. The role also provides interpretation of and guidance on financial data, accounting practices, and budgets for all offices that compose the OME (Student Services, Office of Curriculum and Assessment, Admissions, Office of Medical Student Support and Enrichment Programs), providing reports the Sr. Associate Dean for Medical Student Education (SADMSE) and directors of the offices to support effective planning and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, and 5 years’ experience as a staff accountant; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Advanced knowledge of computer applications including but not limited to; MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Requires excellent detail/organizational and interpersonal skills, capacity to manage a large volume of work, and track multiple projects through to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and recommends departmental policies and procedures for accounting systems and financial reporting .
  • Reviews financial data processed through accounting systems to isolate problem areas.
  • Interprets accounting systems data output, provides consultative service to SADMSE, OME Director, directors of offices within OME, and SMD Finance.
  • Prepares instruction for changes in accounting systems.
  • Trains OME administrative staff in accounting matters related to their respective areas.
  • Prepare routine reports and special reports tailored to informational needs of SADMSE and OME Directors indicating the current or projected status of funds.
  • Interprets trends and projects data into the future.
  • Prepares reports for review by SADMSE and submits reports to SMD Finance for quarterly OME budget review.
  • Performs cost analysis to support the development and setting of medical student tuition and associated fees.
  • Makes day-to-day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment of financial transactions.
  • Monitors special purpose funds. (All departmental endowment and gift accounts.)
  • Prepares reports and consults with OME Directors and SMD finance on matters such as definition and classification of accounts, accounting activity in educational and research programs
  • With guidance from the SADMSE, administers salary distributions for OME teaching faculty associated with curriculum appointments and select administrative staff, ensuring accurate and appropriate allocation across departments.
  • Reviews and processes purchase requisitions, reimbursements, invoices, and change orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
