About The Position

Performs routine accounting work. Work involves maintaining, posting, and balancing accounting and financial statements, records, documents, and reports. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required three years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three years full-time, wage-earning accounting, auditing, financial operations, or purchasing experience.
  • Knowledge of automated financial information systems.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain complex records and files in an automated system.
  • Skill in the electronic transmission of communications.
  • Skill to analyze, consolidate, and interpret financial data and work accurately with numerical detail.
  • Skill to research and resolve financial discrepancies and inquiries.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial accounting documents and records in an automated system; and audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and state and federal statutes.
  • Serves as a consultant to agency administration, departments, factories, and facilities, internal and external customers, and other organizational units regarding accounting work on financial and accounting matters, customer service matters, property and equipment controls, and purchasing requisition matters.
  • Reviews, researches, and reconciles discrepancies in agency accounting records to include expenditures, sales, appropriations, expenses, and revenue collection records; and ensures agency assets are accounted for properly.
  • Prepares periodic analyses of agency accounting records for budgets, revenues, and expenditures; and prepares technical reports on estimates, cost data, sales, expenditures, and budget items.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
