About The Position

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field, or graduation from an accredited two-year degree with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field and two years of work experience in accounting or finance.
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting and financial operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in accounting work for a Texas state agency.
  • Experience using Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), and State Property Accounting System (SPA).
  • Experience in preparing annual financial reports and budgets.
  • Experience with revenue processing.
  • Experience with general ledgers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and reports.
  • Prepares periodic analyses of fund balances and expenditures; prepares technical reports on estimates, cost data, and budget items.
  • Coordinates, provides technical guidance, and ensures the accuracy of accounts payable for the agency.
  • Coordinates with purchasing coordinator on purchase orders for accounts payable.
  • Processes, classifies, codes, and balances financial and accounting documents and records.
  • Maintains systems and controls necessary to provide accurate accounts of revenue, expenditures, and budget balances for agency programs.
  • Analyzes and recommends improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting system and accompanying procedures.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations; researches and reconciles discrepancies in accounts or bank statements, and reports findings.
  • Organizes and reconciles revenue from online systems.
  • May oversee the development and use of internal control procedures to determine compliance with agency policies, procedures, state regulations, and applicable law.
  • May provide agency staff with technical knowledge and functional support using comprehensive knowledge of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Communicates with others to provide, exchange, or verify information, address issues or resolve concerns.
  • May assist with audit inquiries, internal and external.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
