About The Position
The Accountant II position is a critical role within the Finance Division of the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) and its associated entities, including the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (JPB), the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA), and the San Mateo County Express Lanes Joint Powers Authority (ELJPA). This role involves performing a wide variety of accounting activities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The Accountant II will be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, ensuring that all financial data is accurate and compliant with relevant standards. In this position, the Accountant II will review, analyze, and reconcile various financial accounts, including revenue, expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and deferred revenue. The role requires compiling, interpreting, and analyzing accounting data such as budgets and encumbrances, and making necessary correcting entries to ensure the accuracy of financial documents. The Accountant II will also be involved in analyzing accounting variances, trends, exceptions, and discrepancies, and processing accounting data within an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of the annual comprehensive financial report, maintaining the general ledger and sub-ledgers, and preparing documentation for audits. The Accountant II will provide customer service to both internal and external customers, ensuring that all financial transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with agreements and regulations. This position promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to protect oneself and others in the workplace.
