Accountant I

GCI's Accountant I will work as an integral member of the General Ledger Accounting team, participating in the monthly general ledger close, reconciliation, and reporting processes. This role is crucial in providing direct and indirect support for all business departments within GCI and its subsidiaries. The Accountant I will be responsible for the efficient and accurate reconciliation of high volume and/or complex balance sheet accounts, which includes maintaining related spreadsheets, preparing journal entries, and reviewing subledger data. Additionally, the position involves the preparation of monthly recurring journal entries, accruals, and other month-end close processes. The Accountant I will also research G/L and subledger related questions, preparing correcting and special request journal entries or other adjustments as required. This role will provide accounting and analysis support for employees in other departments, ensuring that all financial data is accurate and compliant with internal controls. Other duties may include preparing property tax returns based on G/L records, preparing audit work papers as directed, and providing backup support in the absence of other G/L group members. The position requires a commitment to following all internal control policies and procedures, particularly when using the Oracle General Ledger module and other Oracle modules as needed. The Accountant I will be expected to take ownership of their actions, demonstrate accountability, and maintain a high level of professionalism in all communications. This entry-level position will work under close supervision and is designed for individuals who are beginning their careers in accounting.
