About The Position

O Bee Credit Union is seeking an Accountant I to join their team. This full-time position is crucial for supporting the credit union's mission, members, and company culture. The Accountant I will perform various entry-level accounting functions, with a primary focus on accounts payable and general ledger activities. This role ensures that all work is completed in compliance with internal controls, company policy, GAAP, and applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must have an associate degree in Accounting or a related field. Equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a credit union or bank may be considered in place of the degree.
  • Must be able to pass a background and credit check.
  • Understanding of GAAP and financial services regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and accounting software.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Symitar data processing system is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review general ledger entries to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage the accounts payable workflow, including invoice verification, imaging, and archiving.
  • Ensure invoices are paid accurately and on time, working with vendors to resolve discrepancies.
  • Verify purchase orders, pricing, payment terms, and charges.
  • Perform account maintenance, recording of entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Process corporate credit cards and expense reimbursements in accordance with procedures.
  • Balance daily transactions for ATMs, CUDD, Lending, Shared Branching, and other credit union functions; research and resolve exceptions.
  • Assist with revising, documenting, and testing department procedures.
  • Serve as backup support for other staff and work toward proficiency in additional duties.
  • Prepare accounting and regulatory reports as required.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Credit Union information.
