About The Position

Vineyard City, one of Utah's fastest-growing communities, is located along the shores of Utah Lake in the heart of Utah County. The City is dedicated to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and providing high-quality public services to its residents. The Accountant I position involves entry-level professional accounting work, including the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of financial records, reports, and fiscal statements. This role is crucial in supporting the City's financial operations by ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of financial data. Working under the general supervision of the Finance Director, the Accountant I provides technical and administrative support across various accounting functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • One (1) year of related accounting experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles (GAAP) and budgeting practices
  • Understanding of financial reporting, recordkeeping, and compliance processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with computers and financial systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Ability to prepare detailed financial reports and interpret data accurately

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and operating reports
  • Assist with annual disclosures and financial reporting requirements
  • Monitor and maintain the Chart of Accounts
  • Analyze financial accounts and reconcile revenues, receivables, and interest earnings
  • Prepare and submit required reports to local, state, and federal agencies
  • Prepare State of Utah sales tax returns and assist with audits
  • Process sales tax refunds and track revenue activity
  • Record Tax Increment Financing (TIF) transactions
  • Accrue anticipated revenues including property taxes and fees
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions and payments
  • Audit invoices, purchase orders, and supporting documentation
  • Process accounts payable, including checks and electronic records
  • Reconcile credit card transactions and financial systems
  • Maintain inventory of fixed assets and assist with capitalization
  • Assist with software testing and financial system updates
  • Support annual audits and provide requested documentation
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and financial summaries
  • Maintain job cost and work order systems
  • Enter and track work orders and reconcile to the general ledger
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and City staff regarding financial matters
