About The Position

The Accountant I position at the Collier County Sheriff's Office is designed for proactive and enthusiastic individuals who support the organization's core principles of community, safety, and service. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other business related field required.
  • Minimum of two years general accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of current accounting principles (including government accounting), financial statements and audit procedures.
  • Knowledge of general ledger transactions and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of Federal/State payroll reporting requirements and regulations preferred.
  • Skills in use of computer software applications including spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, communication and problem solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with benefits administration and compliance preferred.
  • Experience with payroll processing preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting payable and accounts receivable processing.
  • Knowledge of cash handling and processing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform payroll-related functions, including pay analysis, hours and benefits calculations, and cost projections.
  • Perform payroll-related reporting such as unemployment, retirement, and periodic employer tax returns (941s, W2s).
  • Review/approve payroll transactions for proper processing.
  • Monitor and calculate disability benefits.
  • Perform benefit related reporting such as (1095, CMS, PCORI, 112 Filing).
  • Manage employee elections, deductions and reporting of enrollment for benefit plans.
  • Assist with benefit plan changes and updates.
  • Monitor and research compliance issues to ensure compliance for benefits programs.
  • Manage annual open enrollment process.
  • Educate and assist members with benefit programs.
  • Prepare and maintain payroll and benefit standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare payroll related journal entries.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal management purposes.
  • Cross train and backup other areas of Finance to include general ledger, budget, cash, accounts payable, fixed assets and grants.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
