About The Position

The Bureau of Finance and Management (BFM) is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team in the role as an Accountant I or II. This role provides the opportunity to gain governmental accounting experience, build competence, develop analytical skills, and begin a long-term career with the State. The State offers accounting opportunities at this level that begin to build solid knowledge of procedures, policies, laws and regulations and how they apply to the various State functions/audit entities while operating in a team oriented environment. The candidate selected for this position will have the opportunity to: assist in the year-end accrual process; review payments and financial documents for accuracy to assist with the preparation of financial statements; track and monitor expenditures including providing statistical information and analysis; assist in implementation of a new enterprise resource planning accounting system. Requirements

  • For the A1 classification, applicable accounting experience plus an Associate's degree (or above) required.
  • For the A2 classification a 4 year accounting degree and 1-2 years of progressive experience equivalent to Level 1 accountant is required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Query, and other desktop tools
  • Knowledge of governmental (fund) accounting
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Governmental Auditing Standards
  • Knowledge of governmental fiscal administrative processes
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to pay close attention to details
