About The Position

The Accountant, Construction & Development (“C&D”), a new position on the C&D team, will have the opportunity to play a critical role in providing accounting support for the company’s robust capital expenditure (“capex”) programs, which resulted in $600M+ spend in 2025. As well as scaling the team’s processes and technological resources, particularly in our growing Senior Housing Operating Portfolio (“SHOP”). This position operates in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment and requires a strong understanding of current and planned capital projects to ensure accurate reconciliation, review, consolidation, and reporting of C&D activity across all business segments. The Accountant will collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners to analyze existing processes and systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and support the design and implementation of a more efficient future‑state C&D accounting model. The ideal candidate has C&D job cost accounting experience, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
2+ years of property accounting and/or public accounting experience, ideally with construction and development job cost experience.
Must be located in the Louisville, KY surrounding area or willing to relocate for the duration of employment
Willingness to adapt and thrive in a blended work environment with 3-days in office, seamlessly transitioning between remote work and in-office operations
Strong interpersonal skills with enthusiasm for working collaboratively across internal and external partners.
Ability to analyze complex problems and develop clear, concise solutions.
Proficiency in Excel required
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or active progress toward CPA certification strongly preferred.
Yardi Job Cost experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Support the day‑to-day administration and data governance of the Job Cost sub‑ledger to ensure C&D spend is well controlled and accurately reported.
Ensure capital expenditures are reported in accordance with GAAP and adhere to our policy.
Serve as a point of contact for field operations on C&D accounting inquiries.
Reconcile Senior Housing operator uploads in coordination with internal segment teams.
Partner with the Fixed Assets team to ensure timely in-servicing of capital projects.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc C&D reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Identify inefficiencies and lead improvement initiatives to enhance future‑state C&D processes and systems.
Support organizational growth by consolidating C&D activities under a centralized oversight model.
