About The Position

This position resides in the Director's Office Division of Department of Revenue. Duties include management of the department’s accounting and fiscal systems and activities. The Accountant is responsible for revenue collection and distribution; providing professional support for agency operations in compliance with regulations and accounting standards; establishing, evaluating, and maintaining accounting systems to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of department business transactions and financial reporting activities; and preparing, monitoring, and analyzing the department approved budgets to ensure agency fiscal requirements are met and comply with executive and legislative intent and applicable statutes and regulations. The position does not supervise other staff. This is a Helena based position

Requirements

  • Knowledge of concepts and theories of governmental accounting and budgeting
  • Knowledge of fiscal management with an emphasis on government and fiduciary accounting
  • Knowledge of internal department systems
  • Knowledge of GenTax, SABHRS, and Internet Budget and Reporting System (IBARS)
  • Knowledge of applicable state laws, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
  • Skills in research and analysis
  • Skills in accuracy and attention to detail
  • Skills in conflict resolution & customer service
  • Skills in Microsoft programs and other database applications
  • Skills in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
  • Accountant I: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a directly related field and 0-2 years of job-related work experience with progressively responsible experience in accounting, fiscal and/or budget management. Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Accountant II: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a directly related field and 2+ years of job-related work experience with progressive responsibility and experience in accounting and fiscal/budget management. Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
