The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $35B, and another $13.6B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system. BEDC's Wastewater Capital Program (WWCP) staff oversees the design and construction of all capital projects managed on behalf of the Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) and the Bureau of Water Supply (BWS). Currently, WWCP manages the capital delivery requirements for BWT and BWS. Some of the capital projects delivered include wastewater resource recovery facilities (WRRF) upgrades/state of good repair improvements, Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) abatement projects and pump station rehabilitation. WWCP consists of a group of project managers and engineers who manage capital projects consistent with BEDC's project delivery and construction management procedures, with an emphasis on environmental health and safety, scope, schedule, budget, and client service. BEDC seeks to hire an Associate Project Manager Level 3 to be an Accountable Manager (AM) for WWCP. The selected candidate will oversee and support the design and construction of WWCP projects for various WRRF, such as but not limited to North River, Bowery Bay, Red Hook, wastewater pumping station projects across the city, contribute to WWCP projects involving WRRF from the watershed region, and also Flushing Bay CSO program. Through a staff of project management professionals, inspectors and/or other technical/administrative staff, the AM will direct the oversight of the planning, design and construction of major capital construction projects for a program that will allow the DEP to meet its wastewater treatment requirements into the future. The selected candidate, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, will be responsible for the achievement of project goals and milestones, ensuring that all prepared schedules, reports, and work products conform to the scope of work.
