About The Position

Reporting to the Director of AES, the Accessibility Coordinator provides case management and accommodation services for undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities. This role facilitates the interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations, supports implementation with faculty and staff, and promotes equitable access to academic and campus life. Grounded in disability law and informed by universal design, the position supports institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act while advancing meaningful inclusion across the University. This is an in-person position based in Portland primarily serving students at the Pacific Northwest College of the Arts (PNCA) campus with occasional travel to the Salem campus. They will share responsibility for AES functions and programs across the entire university.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1–3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in higher education, disability services, advising, counseling, or case management.
  • Knowledge of ADA and Section 504 in an educational setting.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively with diverse constituents.
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships with students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Familiarity with the complexities of medical documentation and its alignment with accommodation determination, including the interpretation of test results such as the WAIS, Woodcock Johnson, and other diagnostics within the DSM-V.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Higher Education Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • 1-2 years experience working with higher education disability accommodations.
  • Experience determining and implementing accommodations in higher education.
  • Familiarity with accommodation management systems (experience with AIM preferred).
  • Familiarity with learning structures in art and design education and the common practices in studio art classrooms.
  • Knowledge of universal design and disability studies frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Case Management & Accommodation Services Maintain a caseload of students registered with AES.
  • Review and interpret documentation (medical, psychological, and educational) to evaluate accommodation requests.
  • Conduct intake meetings and engage students in the interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations that maintain essential course and program requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized accommodation plans.
  • Provide ongoing student support using a coaching model that promotes persistence and academic success.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case notes within the AIM database.
  • Oversee and monitor Flex Plans and their implementation within AIM.
  • Faculty & Campus Collaboration Issue accommodation notifications and consult with faculty on effective implementation.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to faculty and staff regarding disability access, accommodation implementation, and inclusive design.
  • Collaborate with students and instructors to resolve accommodation concerns, in collaboration with the Director of AES.
  • Provide consultation and education to faculty and staff on disability access and inclusive practices.
  • Represent AES at admissions events (e.g., admitted students days, preview days, campus tours) and meet with prospective students.
  • Collaborate with the advising office and the Academic Support Center on public programs, workshops and student facing events focused on student success
  • Serve on departmental, school level, and university committees as assigned (e.g. CARE Team, Accessibility Committee, PNCA Persistence Committee, etc.)
  • In collaboration with the Director, participate in faculty orientation and training programs related to accessibility and 504 compliance.
  • Participate and represent AES at Student Affairs-related events (New Student Orientation, Move-in)
  • Compliance & Operations Interpret and apply ADA, Section 504, FERPA, Title IX, and institutional policies.
  • Ensure accommodation processes are timely, equitable, and compliant.
  • Participate in outreach, committee work, and AES initiatives.
  • Provide occasional operational support, including test coordination and front desk coverage as needed.
  • Supervise student staff and coordinate College Access Navigators, a program for neurodiverse students and students with ADHD, including leadership of some student activities and group mentoring.
