About The Position
The Access Services Representative 2 at Baylor Scott & White Health plays a crucial role in the patient registration process by obtaining and verifying current and accurate demographic and insurance information. This position is responsible for registering patients, verifying insurance benefits, and negotiating and collecting patient financial responsibilities. The representative is expected to cross-train and work in various areas as assigned, serving as a mentor and trainer for peers. This role requires a strong focus on customer service and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism. In this position, the representative conducts and documents patient interviews to gather necessary demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification, and billing. They must be knowledgeable about patient flow processes in different areas and identify opportunities for process improvement that enhance team collaboration and improve revenue cycle functions and the overall patient experience. The representative interacts regularly with other departments to provide timely information regarding patient delays and schedule changes. Additionally, the Access Services Representative 2 verifies patient eligibility for insurance coverage and determines appropriate benefit levels for anticipated services. They are responsible for calculating and collecting patient liabilities according to financial clearance policies, establishing deposit requirements, and negotiating payment arrangements when necessary. The role may also involve cashiering responsibilities, assisting patients with directions and mobility, and escalating service issues to management as needed. Compliance with order validation, cash policy requirements, and patient safety protocols is essential. The representative is expected to conduct formal training and accept new responsibilities as identified by leadership, performing revenue cycle duties across multiple areas as assigned.
