About The Position

The Access Coordinator is primarily responsible for facilitating access to the academic programs, services, activities, and facilities of the institution for students with disabilities. The specific responsibilities include conducting student access plan meetings, reviewing disability documentation, and assessing the interaction of the student’s disability with the environment to coordinate reasonable accommodations. They communicate with instructional staff and other university officials (as applicable) regarding accommodation provision; documenting and maintaining appropriate electronic records of verbal and written communications. Reporting to the Senior Access Coordinator, the Access Coordinator will oversee the expedited registration, University Housing and Dining, Global Campus, Professional and Workforce Development accommodation request processes. Additionally, they monitor compliance, provide leadership and direction in all areas of the Center by providing university-wide consultation, education, and training on the social construction of disability and the intersections of disability with the social and physical environments. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a directly related field of study (such as Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Adult Education, Higher Education or Public Administration) from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least two years working with persons with disabilities at the post-secondary educational level
  • Working knowledge of state and federal legislation related to persons with disabilities
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills that enable effective working relationships with people across the UA community
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Exceptional ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff at all levels
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising professional or graduate student staff
  • Familiarity with access/assistive technology
  • Licensure/certification in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, or related field
