About The Position

The Access Control and Visitor Management Supervisor at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of site access functions, ensuring the safety and security of the facility. This role involves overseeing access control protocols for staff, visitors, and contractors, as well as managing the lock and key program. The supervisor will lead a team of Access Control Specialists, ensuring high-quality operations and compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) policies.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of experience in a security-related field such as homeland security or criminal justice.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • In-depth understanding of DOE security requirements and access control policies.
  • Knowledge of access control systems and visitor management tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with training program development and staff mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of Access Control Specialists.
  • Create and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Supervise and manage the Access Control and Key and Core Program.
  • Oversee daily operations of access-controlled areas, ensuring secure access.
  • Verify personnel and visitor identification for authorized entry.
  • Collaborate with the Foreign National Visitor Management team to comply with DOE requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of DOE and laboratory site access policies.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for site access procedures.
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with security personnel during critical incidents.
  • Develop and deliver access control training for staff.
