About The Position

The Assembly Manufacturing Apprentice position at Caterpillar Inc. offers high school students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing by working in assembly to build excavators or small track-type tractors. This role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and the application of lean manufacturing concepts to foster continuous improvement and waste elimination.

Requirements

  • Must be a Junior or Senior at Athens Community Career Academy in the Work-Based Learning program.
  • Must have support of parent or legal guardian.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the Caterpillar Athens plant.
  • Must be able to work during the school year in 4-hour blocks of time with a start time no later than 1:30 pm.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older by January 2024.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic computer skills - operating computer in Windows-based environment & Microsoft proficiency.
  • Experience working in a team-based environment.
  • Experience working in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of standard assembly tools.

Responsibilities

  • Follow documented procedures to perform safe and defect-free assembly and adjustment of parts and components.
  • Leverage lean manufacturing concepts to support continuous improvement and waste elimination.
  • Use industrial power tools for assembly and lifting devices to move heavy components.

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $12.90/hour.
  • Opportunity to work approximately 20 hours/week during the school year and 40 hours/week in the summer.
