The Academy Unit Supervisor responsibilities include\: Requires considerable knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, development and delivery and systems thinking and management science\: Responsible for planning, designing, developing, directing and coordinating centralized training programs and activities and evaluates instructional methods for the Corrections Training Academy (i.e., NEO, In-service and special projects) Provides direction and guidance in areas of instructional strategies, objectives, lesson plans and curriculum development for training staff Conduct needs assessments to determine and develop specialized training throughout DRC Develop and coordinates training pursuant to DRC policy and monitor training standards for accreditation Travels to regional locations to plan, conduct and evaluate training programs and acts as a liaison between CTA and institution/agency regarding training issues Directly supervises staff involved in assessing and analyzing training and performance needs\: Prioritizes and approves work schedules Assigns, reviews and approves work activities/assignments Responds to questions and concerns and resolves problems Approves requests for leave, overtime, compensatory time, attendance reports and travel, prepares employee goals and completes performance evaluation reviews Continually reviews and evaluates all NEO and/or In-Service training programs to ensure consistent relevant and content application\: Supervises maintenance and retention of training records, may instruct classes as needed; orders materials and supplies as necessary Conduct investigations and presents at pre-disciplinary hearings of alleged staff misconduct as requested Initiate disciplinary action if necessary Responds to grievances and other complaints May direct, coordinate and/or assist in special tasks to include assignment to various DRC committees (e.g. curriculum review, training advisory council, interview panel, program development) Resolves DRC policy and procedure questions Attend seminars, conferences for new training ideas and concepts and to stay abreast of the latest trends. Attend meetings, training and conferences May give presentations and conduct training

Requirements

  • 48 mos. exp. in delivery of training or instructional programs commensurate with area to be assigned based on approved Position Description on file; 12 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications noted above.
