Requirements

  • 48 mos. exp. in delivery of training or instructional programs commensurate with area to be assigned based on approved Position Description on file.
  • Note\: for positions assigned to train in Adult Parole Authority (APA) Firearm certification/re-certification, must be certified OPOTA Trainer per Ohio Administrative Code 109\:2-1-06.
  • -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Requires thorough knowledge of training development and presentations in order to develop, modify and update agency developed instructional program activities of Corrections Training Academy
  • Assesses designs, develops, implements and evaluates departmental training programs for assigned unit to ensure compliance with policies and agency standards
  • Attends, instructs and coordinates department training (e.g., Firearms, Defensive Tactics Subject Control, (DTSC), Cardio Pulmonary (CPR) and Oleoresin Capsicum (OC)) and other program areas as assigned
  • Serves as ELM administrator; creates and monitors program activities
  • Monitors participant rosters to ensure compliance and accountability
  • Monitors course compliance within scope of programs
  • Manages curriculum development projects to include overseeing the work of Subject Matter Experts and personnel assigned to work on curriculum design teams
  • Develops orientation training programs; develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates supplemental programs (e.g., coaches training)
  • Makes recommendations for improvement and/or changes to training programs, policies and practices/procedures based upon Departmental and stakeholder needs through application of a formalized assessment process
  • Creates and run various administrative reports
  • Inputs data into ONBASE
  • Serves as a liaison for DRC staff regarding professional development opportunities
  • Manages major training programs including determination of needs, curriculum development, revision, registrations, evaluations and record keeping
  • Develops and manages DRC programs
  • Formulates and responsibly directs implementation of policy for specialized in-service training programs
  • Serves as liaison and support (e.g., site visits and written correspondence) for internal and external stakeholders and the training academy providing assistance and direction with problem areas as needed\
  • Review and evaluates training needs and provides consultative assistance in training program planning to include job specific training for new training officers
  • Conducts regional training in the field at public and private prisons
  • Monitors student activities by providing assistance and direction
  • Investigate allegations of violations of rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Conducts audits to ensures standardization in the administration and implementation of training programs to coincide with Departmental goals and mission
  • Assists in collection of annual documentation as it pertains to training audit standards (e.g., ACA, Ohio Standards)
  • Attends training sessions for initial instruction for certification to include but not limited to instructor as DTSC, Firearms, OC and CPR
  • Attends meetings, training, and conferences
  • May give presentations, may serve on committees
