About The Position

The Academy Director oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of 6-8 summer academies within the Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin. This position carries full programmatic responsibility across a portfolio of outreach-based and tuition-based academies including budget management, staff supervision, marketing, community partnerships, and grant compliance. The Director works across university offices and external stakeholders to ensure each academy is delivered with consistency, quality, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of experience leading or coordinating education programs, preferably in a university or pre-college setting
  • Demonstrated experience managing program budgets and financial operations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to engage effectively with various audiences, including students, families, faculty, and community partners
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience supervising staff or student workers
  • Ability to maintain composure and respond effectively in challenging or emergency situations
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coordinating programs at UT Austin with working knowledge of university policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with the UT Austin Youth Protection Program and its policies and compliance requirements
  • Experience managing programs serving K–12 student populations
  • Experience managing externally funded grants, including reporting and compliance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Academy Planning & Execution: Lead all phases of summer academy development, from initial concept through post-program evaluation. Collaborate with faculty to align academy content with departmental goals. Manage applications, selections, and scheduling. Serve as the primary point of contact for participants and guardians, ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience from registration through completion. Coordinate with key UT Austin offices including Admissions, University Housing and Dining, and the Youth Protection Program.
  • Operations & Financial Management: Oversee daily on-site management of all academy activities. Maintain accurate records of participants, program activities, and outcomes for internal reporting and grant compliance. Manage academy budgets, purchasing, invoicing, scholarships, and expense processing with careful attention to fiscal responsibility.
  • Marketing & Communications: Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy for tuition-based academies. Work with Marketing team to design and distribute recruitment materials and social media campaigns. Maintain academy websites to ensure consistent, compelling messaging that reflects the department's mission.
  • Partnerships, Grants & Engagement: Create meaningful engagement opportunities with industry partners that enhance the academy experience. Oversee grant funding, manage reporting requirements, and contribute to grant applications that support program sustainability and growth.
  • Team Leadership & Youth Safety: Recruit, train, and supervise program assistants, resident assistants, and temporary academy staff. Foster a team culture grounded in professionalism and excellence. Ensure all staff comply with UT Austin Youth Protection Program policies and maintain a safe environment for all participants.
  • K–12 Outreach & Recruitment: Represent UT Austin Computer Science at K–12 STEM events, conferences, and information sessions. Coordinate departmental participation in university outreach initiatives such as STEM Girl Day.
