About The Position

The Academic Tutor for the Veterans Upward Bound program is responsible for providing group and/or individual tutoring to veteran participants, including first-generation, low-income students, and those with documented disabilities. The position may be part-time and is focused on supporting the educational needs of veterans in various subjects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
• 12 to 18 months of related experience or required coursework/certification.
• Must have successfully passed college course/subject area with an 'A' or 'B'.
• At least 1 year of tutoring experience with a diverse population of college students.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Applications and Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to work with students in both individual and small group sessions.
• Effective communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Ability to perform detailed work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide group and/or individual tutoring to veteran participants in the Veterans Upward Bound program.
• Assist students in subjects such as Pre-algebra, Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Statistics, and English Grammar and Writing.
• Maintain accurate records and files of tutoring sessions.
• Communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Work flexible hours, including some weekends.
