About the position

The Academic Tutor (Math) position is designed to provide academic tutoring support, as well as learning recovery and acceleration support to Emergent Bilingual Students in content areas. This role involves working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material initially introduced by the teacher. The tutor will assist in devising special strategies for reinforcing material based on an understanding of individual students' needs, interests, and abilities. The position is part-time, requiring 19 hours per week, and reports to the Campus Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material on skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Alerts the appropriate personnel to any problem or pertinent information about an individual student.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully certified teacher.
  • Upholds and adheres to the school districts safety rules and policies.
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
  • Demonstrates a high level of independent, ethical, and professional conduct.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
  • Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members and any other stakeholders of the district.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a minimum of 12 college hours.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (preferred).
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate in English with district employees, parents, and students.
  • Experience working with students (preferred).
