About the position

The Academic Technologist, Media and AI is responsible for creating digital media, providing support, and training on digital media technologies and initiatives. This role also focuses on integrating AI into faculty and staff teaching and workflows. The Academic Technologist develops and supports digital media projects using UW Information Technology (UW-IT) tools and other educational technologies. They conduct training sessions on digital media and AI technologies for faculty to enhance their teaching methods and workflows. The Academic Technologist provides technical assistance to faculty integrating media and AI into their courses, creates learning resources, and collaborates with UW Bothell's Learning & Teaching Collaborative to assist faculty on course redesigns involving digital media and AI.

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-user support for learning technologies including the Learning Management system, lecture capture, audience response tools, and video conferencing software.
  • Provide support, training, and consultation on the use of instructional and productivity technologies.
  • Identify and develop trainings for faculty and staff for UW supported productivity technologies.
  • Design workshops on the use of technology, utilizing synchronous and asynchronous modalities.
  • Partner with instructional design coaches to provide coordinated onboarding for new faculty regarding educational technology.
  • Engage in special projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty to enhance their teaching and research through the effective use of AI technologies.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate faculty on AI concepts, tools, and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for AI-related projects and tools.
  • Create and maintain resources, such as guides, tutorials, and videos, to support faculty in using AI effectively.
  • Manage the Media student tutor(s) and provide one-on-one student support for digital media related software and hardware.
  • Communicate project and operational status, updates, and issues to management and keep team members informed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in media design, computer & information technology, digital arts, education, communications, or related field.
  • 3 years' experience working with Learning Management Systems and supporting instructional software, including workshop development and consultations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact positively with all levels of technical understanding.
  • Working knowledge of media delivery formats including streaming video and their integration into a course management system.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Desire to continuously learn new technologies, skills, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, adaptability, and flexibility.
  • Ability to handle conflict in a respectful and positive manner.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards and trends in design, production, workflow, and professional practices.
  • Proficiency in video editing software (e.g. Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere).
  • Knowledge of current standards and trends in integrating technology with teaching and learning pedagogy.
