About The Position

The Academic Support Specialist will collaborate with the building principal and educators in effecting positive academic change for students in the 10th Grade Cohort. This involves developing interventions and utilizing Learning Center Support to recover academic credits using online credit recovery resources. The Academic Support Specialist will also work with staff in tracking academic data of students.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization, for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which may be determined and validated by testing
  • Use of good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Knowledge of district's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
  • High School Diploma required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2-3 Years experience in providing positive behavior support interventions with students preferred

Responsibilities

  • Display the ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals
  • Display the ability to collaborate with all members of the school community
  • Demonstrate confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and school employees
  • Understand and work with the various support systems available in the school and community
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Provide attendance support for chronically absent students
  • Serve as a School-to-Home Liaison which includes making and receiving phone calls and facilitating cohort home visits
  • Possess an understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods, strength in mathematics is essential
  • Analyze and maintain academic progress and attendance data
  • Provide guidance and counseling for College and Career Readiness
  • Ability to set time frames, establish goals, and ensure that students track their progress
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by Administration of Assigned School
