About The Position

The University of Louisville is seeking to hire an Academic Support Specialist II. This position serves as an instructor and academic coach for GEN 103/104: Special Topics in College Mathematics intervention courses. Provide logistical support for all GEN 103/104 courses. Assist with the management of the Math Resource Center (MRC), Emporium Math Lab (EML), and all other classroom locations for GEN 103/104 and Math Resources summer programs. Responsible for planning, development, and implementation of summer bridge programs for undergraduate students. Maintains Math Resources and summer program data to assist with annual reports on the effectiveness of programs and services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Grade 5 (Salaried)

Responsibilities

• Serves as a primary instructor for REACH intervention courses, Special Topics in College Mathematics (GEN 103 and GEN 104). Teaches an estimated 8-10 sections of GEN 103/104 per academic year. Conducts class sessions, tracks student attendance, supervises tutors working with students during these sessions, reviews individual students' testing and progress records.
• Serves as an academic coach for students enrolled in GEN 103 and GEN 104. Reviews individual GEN 103/104 students' testing and progress records and conducts individual conferences with students outside of scheduled class times to encourage academic success, discuss soft skills (such as time management and study strategies), and develop plans of action, as needed.
• Collaborates with the Assistant Director for GEN 103/104 to provide logistical support for all GEN 103/104 sections (e.g. preparing data for annual report and updating course materials, course documents, and software).
• Serves as a mentor to 2-3 graduate assistants each semester who work as recitation leaders for GEN 103/104. Responsibilities include holding weekly meetings to discuss student progress, conducting performance observations, and assisting with graduate student training and professional development each year.
• Provides management and support for GEN 103/104 classrooms (Emporium Math Lab, Mobile Chromebook Classroom, and additional locations). Assists with interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating graduate and undergraduate tutors. Assists with staffing the GEN 103/104 classrooms during all hours of operation (fills in for instructors/GSAs or serves as a tutor when necessary). Maintains a student-friendly staff and learning environment.
• Oversees at least one summer bridge program offered through REACH Math Resources. Updates program materials, documents, and software as needed; manages registration, testing, and marketing; and provides program instruction. Assists with planning and operating other REACH mathematics summer bridge programs and supports program evaluation, data collection, and annual reporting.
• Assists in the general planning of services for REACH mathematics, attends the GEN 103/104 weekly staff meetings, Instructional Team meetings, and may serve as a liaison for Math Resources to the UofL faculty who teach courses served by the MRC and summer bridge programs.
