About The Position

Barry University's Center for Academic Success and Advising is currently seeking an Academic Success Coach. The Academic Success Coach works closely with undergraduate faculty, the Director of the Center for Academic Success and Advising, and CASA staff to facilitate and support the curricular and co-curricular development and retention of first-year students at Barry University. This role is crucial in identifying academic support services and workshops, as well as providing individual and small group consultative and coaching services designed to assist first-year students in developing and implementing the skills and strategies necessary for academic success. Additionally, the Academic Success Coach serves as the academic advisor for undergraduate students during their first year, ensuring they receive the guidance and support needed to thrive in their academic journey. In this in-person position, the Academic Success Coach will serve as the academic coach to a caseload of 40-60 first-year students, meeting with them on an ongoing basis to provide high-quality academic support services. This includes educating students on time management, organizational skills, and study skills, as well as assisting them with task analysis. Each student will have an individual Academic Learning Plan (ALP) developed to cater to their specific needs. The coach will provide regular support through reinforcement of study skills, identification of strengths and weaknesses, explanations of academic policies, and intentional guidance toward improved performance. The role also involves helping students establish schedules for completing academic work while balancing their academic responsibilities with extracurricular activities. The Academic Success Coach will assist students in becoming aware of and utilizing campus and community resources, including academic tutoring, advising, career services, counseling, disability services, financial aid, and student life services. To maintain effectiveness in this role, the coach will stay current on student success and academic coaching trends by attending meetings, professional development events, and engaging with relevant literature. Furthermore, the coach will monitor student progress, document academic outcomes, and collaborate with the Director of the Center for Academic Success and Advising and CASA staff to analyze data and improve programming effectiveness. This position is integral to fostering a supportive environment for first-year students, promoting their academic success and retention at Barry University.
