About The Position

The academic success coach will independently manage and oversee the daily operations of existing learning community programs and will develop and assist with the creation of new initiatives by working with the director and in some instances campus partners. Leads the delivery of special projects aimed to increase student success and retention. Develops, implements, and evaluates student-centered programs including individualized learning interventions, presentations, and workshops targeted to particular needs of diverse student populations. Coordinate meetings and outreach with students to teach academic & personal success strategies, inform about university policies, and make connections with critical resources. Serves academically at-risk students and urgent/extenuating student situations and determines appropriate interventions; plans, delivers, and evaluates individual development programs for students. Engage in research to identify and address gaps in the areas of student success & retention through the redevelopment of existing initiatives or the implementation of new ones. Coordinate Learning Communities Independently manage assigned learning communities (LC) within department. Oversee the promotion and recruitment of Newark LC programs in collaboration with director, other LC coordinators, and admissions office. Manage LC student academic peer coaches on the coordination of LC activities and peer mentor outreach. Communicate weekly with LC faculty on student progress and conduct necessary outreach, working with students to develop and carryout intervention plans as necessary. Hold regular LC events monthly and regularly meet with individual LC students to enhance holistic success. Collaborate with campus colleagues, faculty, and community partners on LC initiatives and experiential learning trips. Represent Newark LCs on university-wide workgroups. Develop curriculum and teach LC arts & science courses in AU & SP semesters. Assess programs by conducting evaluations with faculty and students, report outcomes, and implement necessary changes to improve student success. Student Success Outreach Provides students individualized advice and resources through one-on-one meetings to enhance their academic and personal success. Provides support in the areas of self-regulation and executive functioning while helping students develop study behaviors, skills, and strategies that lead to academic success. Serves academically at-risk students and urgent/extenuating student situations and determines appropriate interventions; plans, delivers, and evaluates individual development programs for students. Informs students on university policies & procedures and makes connections with critical resources. Assist with the coordination and delivery of appropriate student outreach and response by using a variety of methods (i.e. in-person, email, text, phone, etc.). Participate in proactive outreach efforts to improve student success and retain students through a case management model that includes triaging student concerns (i.e. personal, academic, or financial). Utilize university systems such as OnCourse and BuckeyeLink to leverage student success and retention efforts. Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay abreast of research and new practices within the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Program planning and administration
  • Experience working with college students
  • Knowledge of university policies, rules and regulations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in higher education or related field
  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing and reporting student data
  • Coordinating student programs across units desired
