About The Position

At specific target schools, provide direct service delivery to 265 ETS participants in grades 6-12. Services include academic advising, tutoring, financial literacy, career, college and financial aid information and assistance to participants with the college admission and financial aid process. Advisors are responsible for meeting project objectives within their target area. Duties/Responsibilities Provide services to 120 middle school and high school students in target area Provide educational, career, college, financial literacy and financial aid information Provide academic support and advising, individually and in groups Resolve problems of program participants using appropriate advocacy and assistance Collect data for program and USDE reports. maintain necessary records and files on program participants Work with school personnel and other professional organizations to increase knowledge and continually update and improve the quality of services to participants Attend seminars, staff meetings and workshops Plan, organize and implement college visits, job site tours and other experiences for program participants Establish contact with parents via workshops, meetings, email and telephone as needed Complete additional administrative tasks as needed Establish and maintain a regular school visitation schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school and agency personnel within his or her respective geographic region. Provide ongoing assessment of progress by submitting required records, summaries, logs, etc. and attend in-office days as scheduled, at least 3 times yearly. Assist Director in program planning and evaluation. Coordinate with target School Counselors to provide project services to participants. Specific services include: Clarifying career interests and providing career information Assisting with school course selection Providing SAT/ACT preparation Providing information on colleges and the college admissions process Providing information on federal financial aid programs and scholarships Assisting participants with the college admissions and financial aid process Providing connections to financial literacy Providing connections to tutoring Providing mentoring for all students

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Education, Counseling or Human Services and two years experience working with middle school and high school students or Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience
  • Experience in using a variety of computer applications
  • Two-four years of experience in counseling, education or human services.
  • Speak effectively with the public (individual, group or presentations).
  • Understand the socio-economic and academic needs of the participants served through the University of New Hampshire ETS project.
  • Enthusiastically like high school and middle school students.
  • It is superbly organized and is task-and-project oriented.
  • Can work independently.
  • Is willing to travel up to 1,200 miles per month.
  • Can unflappably cope with the unexpected.
  • Must have knowledge of NH postsecondary programs and their admissions requirements.
  • Must have accurate knowledge of federal financial aid programs and scholarships.
