About The Position

The Academic Resources Graduate Assistant position is split between the Life and Career Studies program and the Hayssen Academic Resource Center and assists both departments in supporting the academic needs of all Lakeland students. GAs work ~29 hours/week - The projected ratio during the academic term would be approximately 2/3 of the total hours with LCS, and 1/3 of the total hours with the HARC. The projected ratio of hours between the two programs would likely flip during the summer terms. Responsibilities

  • Assist the director with developing and providing access to resources that support both in-person and online learning
  • Maintain the HARC's social media presence on Instagram and Facebook
  • Promote engagement and learning activities across campus (study sessions, mid-term and finals events)
  • Represent the HARC at information table sessions offered in the Daily Grind at the end of term(s)
  • Assist the Director of First Year Experience, as needed, during Blue and Gold Days and FYE orientation activities
  • Work in collaboration with Lakeland's athletic department to support study initiatives for student athletes
  • Assist the HARC director with recruitment and training of academic coaches
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Under the leadership of the program coordinator, assist in implementation and day-to-day operations of the Life and Career Studies program, specifically supporting academics
  • Provide academic coaching for 3 inclusive Lakeland courses (9-10 credits) each semester which includes in-class support and guided study halls for LCS students
  • Provide direction to peer undergraduate academic coaches and volunteers working with students in the Life and Career Studies program
  • Assist with instruction and provide 1:1 support related to independent living, specifically in the areas of time management and organization
  • During 2nd year, co-instruct one credit of LAK X07 - Personal Development or LAK X08 - Community Living and Engagement each fall and spring semesters
  • Assist with the development of social etiquette, communication skills, and conflict resolution
  • Respond to unanticipated needs including but not limited to physical or psychological safety
  • Communicate and problem-solve with Life and Career Studies Program Coordinator, other LCS Program Graduate Assistants, and other staff to serve the needs of students enrolled in the Life & Career Studies program
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Stipend: 1st year Graduate Assistant - $600 / month; 2nd year - $650 / month
  • Meal Plan: $50/week
  • Tuition Remission: Full remission to a maximum of thirty (30) credits per year over any three (3) consecutive semesters as a Graduate Assistant.
  • Housing is NOT included.
